ArtWorks for Milwaukee supports the mission of helping high school students develop career capabilities by way of paid arts internships through programs at the intermediate and advanced level. These internships promote growth in art and job skills by partnering professional lead artists with teams of Milwaukee teens to create community-based works of art.
Interns at the intermediate level partake in a year-long internship in which they work on individual or collaborative art projects that ultimately culminate in a public showing of their work. All the while interns are learning 21st century skills and receiving career coaching from ArtWorks’ partner, ManpowerGroup.
Teens who successfully complete an intermediate internship have the ability to apply for another year-long internship at the advanced level. Interns at this level have the chance to facilitate ArtWorks’ workshops for elementary and middle school aged youth in order to further develop their leadership skills.
These programs advocate for the development of soft skills that are crucial to the workforce: professionalism, collaboration, leadership, accountability, problem solving, among many others.
Overall, ArtWorks for Milwaukee strive to provide our interns with exposure to job training opportunities and experiences, positive mentoring through relationships built with the lead artists, career coaches, and other participants, and practice of artistic techniques.
